Peanut Butter and Honey Milk Toast Recipe

Wanted something different from just milk and bread for breakfast, so I made this. It came out too sweet because the honey and chocolate peanut butter added up, but the taste was still good. Soft and rich inside, lightly crusty outside.

Ingredients

  • 3 slices of bread
  • A little more than 1 cup of milk
  • 2 tablespoons cream from top of stored full-fat milk, or store-bought
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon powdered sugar divided (optional, see notes)
  • 4 to 5 g butter divided

Method

Toast the First Slice and Add Cream:
  1. Heat the pan and add about half the butter. Once melted, place the first bread slice in.
  2. Let the bottom toast lightly, then spread the cream over the top in a thin layer.
Add the Second Slice and Peanut Butter:
  1. Place the second bread slice on top.
  2. Spread peanut butter over the surface, covering it evenly.
Add the Third Slice, Butter, and Sugar, Then Flip:
  1. Place the third slice on top, add the remaining butter and spread across the surface.
  2. Sprinkle half the powdered sugar over the top, then flip the whole stack so the sugared side faces down.
  3. Give it about a minute until the sugar caramelizes, then flip once more so the caramelized side faces up.
Pour in the Milk:
  1. Pour the milk over the bread. It will sizzle when it hits the pan, that's normal.
  2. Cook on medium heat and flip gently every couple of minutes so both sides soak evenly.
  3. It's done when the pan looks dry and the bread feels heavier than when you started.
Finish with Honey and Sugar:
  1. Take off the heat once the milk is fully absorbed.
  2. Sprinkle the remaining powdered sugar on top if using, then drizzle the honey over everything.
  3. Eat while still warm.

Notes

Keep the heat on medium the whole time, If the milk evaporates before the bread absorbs it, the heat is too high.
Chocolate peanut butter gives a faint chocolate flavor on top of everything else.
