Mango Avocado Banana Smoothie with Oats and Peanut Butter

Made this before a run with mango, banana, avocado, oats, chocolate peanut butter, and honey. It takes about five minutes and is filling enough to carry you through a workout. The mangoes I used were sour, so I've also written what to do differently if that happens to you.

Ingredients

  • One-quarter of a medium mango cut into small pieces, fibrous parts removed
  • Half a banana roughly sliced
  • 1.5 tsp avocado
  • 1 tsp oats
  • 1 glass milk around 250 to 300ml
  • 1 scoop chocolate high-protein peanut butter
  • Honey to taste around 1 tsp

Method

Blend the Fruit, Oats, and Peanut Butter Into a Paste First:
  1. Add the mango, banana, avocado, oats, and peanut butter to the blender with just enough milk for the blades to move, around 3 to 4 tablespoons.
  2. Blend until you have a thick paste. It won't look like a smoothie yet, just a dense mixture.
Add Honey and a Little More Milk, Blend Again:
  1. Drizzle in the honey and add a small second pour of milk.
  2. Blend again. Adding honey at this stage means it distributes through the whole mixture instead of sitting on top.
Add the Rest of the Milk and Blend One Final Time:
  1. Pour in the remaining milk and blend until smooth and pourable.
  2. Taste before drinking. If it's too sour, stir in a little sugar now; honey won't fix sourness the way sugar does.

Notes

Add honey in the second blend, not the first. It mixes through the mixture better at that point.
